How to create your account and first link on WhatsClicks
If you want to know how to use WhatsClicks, this step-by-step guide takes you from creating the account to a first link ready to paste into your button. You do not need a card to start, or any technical knowledge.
What is WhatsClicks and how does it work?
WhatsClicks is a service that counts how many times people click the WhatsApp buttons on your website. It works like this: you register your number and a first message, and the dashboard generates a link similar to https://whatsclicks.com/w/code.
Then you put that link in place of the button address. When someone clicks, WhatsClicks records the click and immediately takes the person to the WhatsApp chat with your number. For the person clicking, nothing changes. For you, a click count appears that you can follow.
It is worth remembering what the tool does and does not do. It counts clicks on the button. It does not tell you how many chats turned into sales and it does not show who clicked.
How do you create the free account?
Sign-up is free and you do not need to enter a card to start. You get a 3-day free trial with up to 2 links, enough time to get your first button working and see the first numbers.
- Open the sign-up page: https://whatsclicks.com/app/?v=signup&lang=en. The address already opens the dashboard in English.
- Fill in the requested details in the form and confirm your registration.
- When you log in, you land in the dashboard. In the menu you will see the tabs Links, Summary, Account, Plans and Help.
- Check that you are on the Links tab. That is where all the links you create will live, and for now it should be empty.
The dashboard is also available in Portuguese and Spanish. If you prefer another language, switch it in the dashboard itself or change the end of the sign-up address to lang=pt or lang=es.
How do you create your first WhatsApp link?
With your account open, go to the Links tab and choose the option to create a new link. The screen asks for just a few things, and it is worth filling them in carefully because they decide what the person sees after clicking.
- Give the link a name so you can find it later, like Main website or January campaign. The name is only for your own use.
- Type the WhatsApp number that will receive the chats, with country code and area code. It is the same number you would use in a wa.me link.
- Write the first message. It is the text that already appears ready in the chat when the person arrives, for example: Hi, I found you on your website and I would like to know more.
- Save the link. It appears in the list on the Links tab with an address shaped like https://whatsclicks.com/w/code.
- Copy that address. It is the one you will use on your website button.
Already have a wa.me link? You can import the number and message by pasting that address, without typing them again.
How do you test the link before using it?
Before touching your website, run a quick test. Paste the WhatsClicks link into your phone's browser bar and open it. You should be taken straight to a WhatsApp chat with the number you registered and the first message already filled in.
If the chat opened with the right number and text, all is well. If it opened with a different number, go back to the Links tab, edit the link and check the digits.
Remember that the owner's own clicks count. So your test will show up as a click on the Summary tab. That is normal and helps confirm that counting works.
Where is the link and how do you use the address builder?
Under each link in the dashboard there is an address builder. It lets you create versions of the same link with optional tags that say which page and which button the click came from.
You can use three tags, all optional: ?p=/page says which page, &src=top names the button (position or name) and &t= changes the first message on that specific button. For your first link you can ignore all this and use the plain address. When you want to separate your buttons, the builder puts the full address together for you.
- Plain address: counts all clicks on that link together.
- With ?p=: shows which page of the site the click happened on.
- With &src=: shows which button on the page was clicked.
What do you do after creating the link?
The next step is to put the link on your website button, on your social media profile or anywhere you currently share your WhatsApp. That step has an article of its own, which teaches how to replace the button address safely.
After a few hours with the link live, open the Summary tab. It shows clicks and unique visitors for the period, the comparison with the previous period and the days and hours with the most activity. The numbers are small at first, and that is expected. They become more useful as the days go by.
If you want to continue after the 3-day trial or use more than 2 links, there are paid plans, which you can see on the Plans tab. Payment is processed by Mercado Pago and you can cancel in one click from your account.
- Links: create, edit, pause and delete your links.
- Summary: see clicks, hours, pages and buttons.
- Account: your account details.
- Plans: see the paid options.
- Help: get answers to usage questions.
