TikTok ads that lead to WhatsApp: how to see what works

TikTok ads that lead to WhatsApp can fill your inbox, but only if you know which video actually brings people to chat. This guide shows a simple way to tag each ad and read the results.

Why TikTok ads that lead to WhatsApp need their own tracking

TikTok audiences scroll fast. Someone watches your video for a few seconds, taps the ad, lands on a page, and either taps your WhatsApp button or leaves. The ad dashboard shows you views and ad clicks. It does not show you how many people took the next step and tapped the WhatsApp button.

Without that number, you cannot tell a video that gets lots of curious taps from a video that brings people ready to talk. A click counter on the WhatsApp button fills this gap.

What you need before you start

  • A landing page or a site page with a WhatsApp button, or the option to send the ad straight to a WhatsApp link.
  • A WhatsClicks link with your number and a first message that matches the ad, such as: Hi, I saw your video and I want to know more.
  • A short list of the videos or ad groups you want to compare, each with a simple name.

WhatsClicks has no pixel and no integration with TikTok. It counts clicks on the link. The comparison between videos is done by tagging the link, and the cost math is yours.

Step by step: tag each TikTok video

Keep the tags short, lowercase and without spaces. A tag like video-review is easy to read later in your tables.

If you send the ad straight to the link, remember that visitors will not see a page at all: they go directly to the chat. That makes the first message even more important, so write it to match the video promise word for word.

  1. In Links, create or open your WhatsApp link and copy it. It looks like https://whatsclicks.com/w/code.
  2. Add a tag for each ad. For example: ?p=/tiktok-offer&src=video-unboxing for one creative and ?p=/tiktok-offer&src=video-review for another.
  3. Paste each tagged address into the matching button, or into the ad destination field if you are sending the ad directly to the link. The label of that field depends on the ad tool and may change.
  4. Keep a note of which tag belongs to which video, so you do not mix them up in two weeks.
  5. Click each version once yourself to confirm it opens the right chat.

How to see what works in the dashboard

Open the Summary tab and go to the table By button. Every src you created is a row. The row with more clicks is the video that brought more people to tap WhatsApp. The highlights in sentence form also tell you the most clicked button, which is a quick way to spot the winner.

Check the Device card too. TikTok traffic is mostly phones, so you should see a big share of mobile. If you see a lot of computer clicks, your traffic may be coming from somewhere else.

The hour chart and the weekday heatmap show when people tap. If most taps come in the evening, that is a good hint for when to be ready to answer.

A small example with made-up numbers

Imagine two videos running for a week. Video A shows 90 clicks on WhatsApp and Video B shows 35. Video A looks like the winner. But in your chat you notice that most of Video A contacts only ask about price and disappear, while Video B contacts ask for a quote.

That is why the counter is one piece of the story. Use clicks to find interest, then use your chat to judge quality. Write down, for each video, clicks and the number of real conversations.

These numbers are only an example. Your own results will be different.

Tips to get cleaner results

Do not forget the follow-up. TikTok visitors are often in a hurry, so a quick and friendly reply matters more than a perfect one. Open the Summary tab each morning, check Yesterday, and see which video was the busiest. If one video suddenly brings many more clicks than usual, an alert may appear at the top, and that is your cue to be ready for more chats. When a video stops working, pause it and try a new angle, keeping the same landing page so you can still compare fairly. Over a month, these small habits teach you what your audience likes, and the dashboard keeps the evidence in one place for you to review.

  • Change one thing at a time between videos. If you change the video, the page and the message together, you will not know what made the difference.
  • Give each test at least a few days before deciding.
  • Use the period filter to match the dates of your campaign.
  • Export the data as CSV when you want to compare with your ad spend in a spreadsheet.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send a TikTok ad directly to a WhatsClicks link?

Yes, the link can be used as a destination, and each click is counted before the person is taken to your WhatsApp chat. If you use a landing page, tag the button on the page instead.

Does WhatsClicks see which TikTok user clicked?

No. It stores date and time, device type, browser, system and an anonymous visitor code. It does not store IP, name, phone or email.

Can I know how much each WhatsApp click cost?

Not automatically. Take your spend from the ad platform and divide it by the clicks you see in the By button table.

Will the counter show sales from my TikTok ads?

No. It counts clicks on the button, not closed deals. Follow the sales in your own chat or records.
